Hello! In case you can’t already tell, my name is Leigh Burniston. Welcome to my flower garden! A little bit about me – I’m a young Catholic writer who creates stories to both celebrate the light and acknowledge the darkness.
Over the years, I’ve dabbled in almost every kind of writing. Fiction, nonfiction, lyrics, poetry, take your pick. While I’ve never been able to pick a favorite genre, my current projects tend to stay in the fantasy and speculative fiction realms.
I’m currently at university studying for a BFA in Creative Writing. When I’m not writing, you can find me with a book, singing at the top of my lungs, or spending time with my awesome friends.

Such is the Way to the Stars
Why?
Everyone always asks young people ‘what’ questions. “What do you want to be when you grow up?” “What are you doing for school?” “What impact are you leaving on the world?”
What do I want to be? I want to be an author. But anyone can say that. What if we asked ‘why’? Why do I want to write? Why do I want to leave an impact on the world? Perhaps because the answer isn’t always simple. I can’t explain all my reasons in just a few words.
But I can point you to the hate and the darkness and the suffering all around us. I can point you to every depressed teenager and anxious parent. I can showcase all the ways we talk about the brokenness of human nature, and it will make you question the point of everything.
And then I can, ever so gently, draw your attention to Max Ehrmann’s quote: “With all its sham, and drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.”
Why do I write? Because our entire reality doesn’t have to be suffering. And I think that’s a truth worth living.
